Health is Wealth - What Is Procrastination?

You know the feeling of turning off the alarm in the morning and saying “give another 5 minutes and I’ll get out of bed”? Or do you ever have to carry out tasks such as studying, finishing work for a project or even training and saying “yes come on for one day it doesn’t change, I’ll do it tomorrow…”, I really imagine that it happened to you too…


Here, the action of postponing things to do is procrastination, it is a very dangerous action, because it then puts us in unpleasant situations where we have little time available and many actions to carry out, this leads to having a state of anxiety and nervousness that among the thousands of complications it brings, does not make us work to the maximum of our abilities for the short time available to us.


Why do we procrastinate?

The reasons why we procrastinate are many, but the cause is common for all, being in the COMFORT ZONE, when we procrastinate, we always find ourselves in a state of tranquility, and it is therefore mentally difficult for us to get out of that state, because I feel good, and starting an activity would put us in a position to compromise our mental state of well-being.


How to fight it?

to fight procrastination, explains David Goggins (one of the best agents of the navy seal) you have to get up and act, you don’t feel like studying, get out of bed and start studying something then the urge will come, you don’t feel like training, get up and start to walk, this will help you start your workout, the key is therefore in starting, “well begun is half done”, starting puts our brain to release dopamine, the hormone of success, when in fact we complete a activity, our brain releases this substance that makes us want to complete even more goals.


Practical tips to avoid procrastination:

  • in the morning when you get up, immediately make up your bed, wash your face with cold water and do not use your mobile phone for at least 30 minutes

  • plan your days, write in a diary the things you have to do the next day, and in the evening write 5-6 lines to keep track of your progress, “did you complete the activities you had planned?”, “what made you prevented from completing tasks?”, “have you wasted time on social media?”… This gives you the awareness of what you are doing wrong and makes you grateful for the results you are achieving.

  • 3 surround yourself with productive people, a friend of mine always repeats to me that we are the average of the 5 people we hang out with, it’s true, so don’t surround yourself with people who are listless and unmotivated, “those who walk with the lame learn to limp…”
