Emotional competences. Developing Emotional Intelligence in teachers and students

Emotional and social development represent a key issue in all areas of our personal and professional lives today. Emotional competence has been defined as

"the functional capacity in which a human being can achieve his or her goals after an encounter that arouses emotions".

Carolyn Saarni described the use of emotions as a set of achieved skills that then lead to the development of emotional competence, which is crucial for personal self-efficacy.

This training will look at the different perspectives of "emotional competence" and explore the main skills associated with it.

Another aspect that will be observed is social competence (an essential feature of emotional competence), which refers to empathy towards others.

Understanding the necessary competences that enable success in a working environment and in relationships necessarily requires careful reflection on communication style and conflict management.

Target group

This course is mainly intended for teachers and educators (although it can be used by many other types of professionals).

Main Objectives

This training focuses on improving teaching methods, broadening knowledge on the topics mentioned above, and building new co-operations with other international colleagues.

The Jump Academy will help all participants to discuss and learn more, touching partly on literature belonging to "psychology", and promoting the development of "emotional competence" skills in learners with whom teachers and educators work daily.

Teaching young people skills such as active listening, self-awareness and empathy can equip them to succeed both academically and socially.
