CLIL IS PRACTICE. A Training in creating interactive lessons using foreign languages

Aggiornamento: 17 mag 2021

CLIL (Content and language integrated learning) is an innovative approach that has long been promoted and implemented by education ministries as a motivating method for teaching subjects using a second language (it ties in with the idea of internationalisation through multilingualism).

The JUMP Training Academy Team, made up of native English-speaking teachers who work or live in Italy (but also come directly from the UK) offers an interesting course aimed at improving English language skills through the study of disciplinary content outside the English language and literature (e.g. science, mathematics, economics, etc.).

Through the development of English language skills and the broadening of subject knowledge, three main areas are stimulated: creativity, motivation and the intelligent and purposeful use of ICT (Information and Communication Technology).

Target group

Mainly teachers and educators, but also trainers and school managers.

Teachers can be language teachers, especially English teachers aiming to become 'CLIL trainers' and subject teachers, who are the main target group for whom CLIL is useful, urgent and required to broaden perspectives and improve the level of internationalisation of teaching. Potentially all adults and also professionals in the field of education are invited to participate in this course.

As with all our programmes, this one is flexible and adaptable to particular requirements, depending on the subject matter taught or the starting level of the participant.

Key objectives

Through an integrated learning of language and communication skills and a multicultural approach to knowledge, an implementation of the quality of the content and, at the same time, a refinement of English pronunciation and grammar is promoted.

It is therefore a good opportunity to develop and/or refine teachers' language and communication skills.

The CLIL methodology we propose facilitates discussion and sharing between teachers and learners who have the opportunity to use a second language in meaningful cognitive contexts that are different from those they usually face.

Sometimes, as part of our programme, it is possible to spend a morning in a local school, visiting, observing and collaborating in one or more lessons.
