The Little Prince, more than just a child’s book

One of the most published and translated books in the world, The Little Prince has captured the hearts of readers since 1943 with its story of a pilot stranded in the Sahara, and a little man with golden hair who has fallen to earth by chance. Part fantasy, part fable, this is written as much for children as for adults.

Although at first glance this book might seem to be meant for children, dealing with a quest to find friendship, the book can be interpreted on many different levels. The author of the novel resourcefully crafts it to be read differently according to the age of the reader, and so the book goes beyond the limits of both time and age. On one level the Little Prince is searching for friendship, but on another level he is searching for something much more crucial: he is searching for the truth.

This timeless tale explores themes like childhood, imagination and the inevitability of growing up. As the Little Prince journeys from planet to planet and meets the residents who live there, he learns a lesson from each. But when he reaches Earth, he begins to learn lessons that impact him and his relationships on a deeper level. Thanks to the wise character of the Fox he learns immense life lessons, how that the time you give to something makes it precious.

It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important.
